When you post to multiple social platforms at once, one caption doesn't always fit all. Captivation Hub's Customize for Each Channel feature lets you tailor your content — caption, images, and video — for each platform separately, all within a single post workflow. This guide walks you through how to use it.
What Is Customize for Each Channel?
Customize for Each Channel is a toggle inside the Social Planner post composer. When enabled, it lets you create different versions of the same post for each connected social account — so your Instagram caption can be short and visual while your LinkedIn version is more detailed, all scheduled at the same time.
Key things this feature supports:
- Platform-specific captions: Write different copy for each channel without creating separate posts.
- Separate media per channel: Use different images or video for each platform where applicable.
- Scheduling flexibility: Publish immediately, schedule for later, save as a draft, or send for approval — your choice applies across all channels.
- AI-assisted content: Use Content AI to help generate or adjust copy for each channel.
How to Use Customize for Each Channel
Step 1 — Open Social Planner and Create a New Post
Go to Marketing > Social Planner. Click the New Post button to open the post composer.
Step 2 — Select Multiple Social Accounts
In the post composer, select at least two social accounts to post to. The Customize for Each Channel toggle only becomes available once multiple accounts are selected — it won't appear if you've only chosen one.
Step 3 — Enable the Customize for Each Channel Toggle
Once you've selected multiple accounts, the Customize for Each Channel option will appear. Toggle it on to unlock per-channel editing.
Step 4 — Customize Content for Each Platform
With the toggle on, each selected platform gets its own editing panel. Click through each channel tab to write a separate caption, swap out media, or adjust links. The Post Preview panel updates in real time so you can see how each version will look before publishing.
Character Limits by Platform
Each platform caps how much text a post can contain. Keep these in mind when writing channel-specific captions:
| Platform | Character Limit |
|---|---|
| Facebook Pages & Groups | 5,000 |
| Instagram Profiles | 2,200 |
| LinkedIn Pages & Profiles | 3,000 |
| Google Business Profile | 1,500 |
Social Planner will flag content that goes over the limit for a given platform, so you'll know before you schedule.
Adding Media to Channel-Specific Posts
You can attach images, videos, or other media to each channel version of your post. A few things to keep in mind:
- Wait for media to finish uploading before switching between channel tabs or toggling Customize for Each Channel off — switching mid-upload can discard the file.
- If a video thumbnail is still processing, avoid switching accounts or toggling the feature until it's done. You may need to reapply the thumbnail if interrupted.
Using Content AI (Optional)
If you want help writing captions for each channel, you can use Captivation Hub's built-in Content AI. Look for the AI writing option within the post composer and use it to generate or rewrite copy per channel. This is especially useful when you need to quickly adapt one message across several platforms with different tones or lengths.
Note: If you turn off the Customize for Each Channel toggle after making per-channel edits, those customized versions will be lost. Make sure you're done before disabling it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if my caption is over the character limit for a specific platform?
Social Planner will show a warning or indicator letting you know the content exceeds the limit. You'll need to trim the caption for that channel before you can publish. The other channel versions won't be affected.
