Opportunities let you track potential sales from first contact to closed deal. Each one lives inside a pipeline and moves through stages as your relationship with the prospect develops. This guide walks through how to create a new opportunity in Captivation Hub.
Step 1 — Open the Opportunities Module
From your account, click Opportunities in the left-hand navigation. This opens your pipeline view where all current opportunities are displayed.
To create a new opportunity, click the + New Opportunity button (or the + icon at the top of any pipeline stage column in Kanban view).
Step 2 — Fill In Contact and Opportunity Information
In the new opportunity form, enter the details for the contact this opportunity is linked to:
- Contact name — Search for an existing contact or create a new one.
- Opportunity name — Give the opportunity a clear name so it's easy to identify in your pipeline (for example, "John Smith — Website Project").
- Opportunity value — Enter the potential deal amount. This feeds into pipeline revenue reporting.
Step 3 — Assign Pipeline, Stage, and Status
- Pipeline — Choose which pipeline this opportunity belongs to.
- Stage — Select the stage that reflects where this deal is right now.
- Status — Set the status: Open, Won, Lost, or Abandoned. New opportunities are typically set to Open.
Step 4 — Add Owner and Additional Details
- Assigned to — Choose the team member responsible for this opportunity.
- Close date — Optionally add an expected close date to help with forecasting.
- Custom fields — Fill in any custom fields your team uses to track additional information specific to your business.
- Notes — Add any relevant context or next steps for the opportunity.
Step 5 — Save the Opportunity
Click Save to create the opportunity. It will appear in the pipeline stage you selected, and the contact record will show the linked opportunity in their activity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I link an opportunity to an existing contact?
Yes. Search for a contact by name or email when filling in the contact field, and the opportunity will be linked to their existing record.
Can a contact have more than one opportunity?
Yes. A contact can have multiple opportunities — for example, if they're interested in more than one service or if you're tracking a renewal separately from the original deal.
Can I create an opportunity from inside a contact record?
Yes. Open the contact, go to the Opportunities tab, and click to add a new opportunity from there. It will pre-fill the contact information automatically.
What happens if I don't assign a pipeline or stage?
A pipeline and stage are required to save an opportunity. Make sure both are selected before clicking Save.
