Gamification transforms routine community interactions into reward-based experiences. By assigning value to actions like posting, commenting, and receiving likes, members become more motivated to stay active and reach goals.
Captivation Hub gamification has three core components:
- Points: Numerical values earned through community activity
- Badges: Achievements unlocked when milestones are reached
- Leaderboard: A ranking system that shows who is contributing the most
Together, these create a structured system that promotes accountability and continuous engagement across your community.
How to Set Up Gamification in Your Community
Proper setup ensures gamification aligns with your community goals and accurately reflects member activity. Here is how to configure it:
- Go to Memberships > Communities > Groups.
- Log in to your group.
- Click Settings inside the group.
- Go to the Gamification & Rewards tab.
- Edit level names as needed (note: the number of levels and point structure are preset and cannot be changed).
- Add any offline rewards you want to offer.
- Enable and review leaderboard settings.
- Click Save when done.
How Levels and Points Work
Points are earned when other members like your posts, comments, or replies. Each like equals 1 point for the post or comment author.
Important: Member levels are tracked at the group level. A member at Level 3 in one group starts at Level 1 when they join a different group.
Here is the point structure required to reach each level:
- Level 1 — 0 points
- Level 2 — 5 points
- Level 3 — 20 points
- Level 4 — 65 points
- Level 5 — 155 points
- Level 6 — 515 points
- Level 7 — 2,015 points
- Level 8 — 8,015 points
- Level 9 — 33,015 points
When a member reaches a new level, their profile badge updates to reflect it, and they can see how many points they need to reach the next level. The circular progress bar shows their progress at a glance.
How Rewards Work
Rewards in gamification are text-based and managed offline — they cannot currently be automatically linked to specific levels. Group admins and owners can add up to 3 offline reward descriptions to motivate members (for example, "Win $50 after reaching Level 5").
To add a reward: go to Group Settings > Gamification & Rewards > Rewards.
Once added, rewards appear in the left navigation bar inside the Leaderboard tab where members can see them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I customize the gamification levels and point structure?
You can edit the names of the levels, but the total number of levels (maximum 9) and the underlying point structure are preset and cannot be changed.
Q: Can rewards be linked directly to gamification levels?
Not currently. Rewards must be managed and distributed outside of Captivation Hub. You can describe the reward in the system, but fulfillment happens offline.
Q: Are badges awarded automatically?
Yes. Badges are automatically awarded when a member meets the predefined milestone criteria.
Q: Do points reset over time?
No. Points do not reset — they accumulate continuously over time.
Q: Does gamification affect reporting data?
Gamification reflects activity-based engagement and may align with some reporting metrics, but it is designed primarily for motivation and recognition, not formal reporting.
